Just a short drive from St. Helena, sits Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards; an off-the- beaten-path winery nestled into the south side of Howell Mountain in the Conn Valley. A visit to their private 40-acre estate and wine caves offers tastings (by appointment only), making your time spent at the highly-regarded Cabernet house a very intimate experience. Many have heard the vineyard’s name in the press over the years- a direct result of their consistent accolades in winemaking–but only a few know the true history behind this boutique winery and its wines. So consider this your “virtual invitation” to explore one of the most well-regarded wine producers in Napa Valley.

While applying his Geology degree in a small oil & gas firm, proprietor Todd Anderson came to the realization that he wasn’t happy in the corporate world in which he was working. He wanted to get back in touch (literally) with the soil that had drawn him into the geological field all those years ago.
So in 1983, Todd bought the bare acreage where the current winery stands, and began planting trees, followed by grape vines. His inaugural wine release in 1987 was a Cabernet Sauvignon, and he’s been producing world-class wines ever since.

According to Robert Parker Jr., Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyard is the “Bordeaux of Napa”, given the prevailing black fruit characteristics which define Todd’s wines.  The winery doesn’t release any bottle rated less than 93 points, so expect to taste elegant, expertly crafted wines—each presented in a relaxed and rustic atmosphere with personalized service at every turn.

Two tastings options are available at the winery by prior appointment:

Sample current releases and library wines in an intimate setting of the barrel caves. Your expert wine host will guide you through an educational experience as you sip seven different wines, along with one or two samples straight from the barrel.

Price: $65 per person | fee waived with wine purchase of $100 or more
Party size: 1-8

Duration: 1hr 15min

Tip: The winery can provide an exquisite charcuterie platter for your party upon request. Additional $30 p/person.

Regardless of which tasting experience you choose, every guest paying a visit to the property should be prepared for a prompt welcome by the winery’s three adorable dogs—soon to be stars in their own right, as all three are featured in the upcoming edition of “Winery Dogs.

Upon arrival, your wine guide will drive you in small groups of five via golf cart up through the large estate, past the bucolic old barn, and to the secluded caves. From there, you’ll discover the beautiful gardens and charming pond hidden amongst the vines. And the front entry to their caves makes for a spectacular vantage point to take in the wonderful views of their mature vineyards…so have your camera at the ready!
